What’s the perfect way to start the holiday season off right? For some Moliners it was getting together with students from area schools and having a huge holiday dance, the Jingle Jam.
This year’s Jam, held at the River Center, was designed as a way for teenagers from the Quad City Metro Area to meet one another in a way that they would not be able to normally. The purpose of Jingle Jam is to provide an outlet of fun for teens that is drug and alcohol-free.
In the past, getting together with friends and making many new ones has defined the Jingle Jam, and the tradition was continued this year. Sophomore Aaron Eechaute-Lopez said of this year’s Jingle Jam, “It was a great way to kick off Share Joys and the holiday season. Plus, the band was awesome.”
This year’s dance also had tons of great music to dance to. Alleman’s band, Minus Six, played a mix of popular music with some old favorites mixed in. Sophomore Gisela Press said, “I loved watching Minus Six play. They are really talented!”
In between Minus Six’s sets, All-Hit 98.9’s DJ Red Hot Brian Scott supplied the dance with upbeat tempos and slow melodies. The only negative to be found was the coat check. The rules required checking in coats at the door. This rule might have been fair enough, yet students were also required to check purses.
At the end of the night, coat check tickets had to be found and turned in to receive their stuff.
To a few lucky students, Jingle Jam turned out to be an early Christmas present, too. Door prizes were given away this year, complete with a guitar and an I-Pod. Friends met new friends and talked to new people while sporting silver armbands.
